As I type this my mom is flying home after an amazing week here with Jason, Ryder and I. She enjoyed her time with Ryder and already booked another flight back up to see him. Living far away from family with Ryder will definitely not be easy. We spent most of our time just enjoying Ryder. And of course there are plenty of pictures of the little man:

Who does Ryder look like?
We have been having fun comparing every last inch of Ryder to us as babies. He has Jason's ears, nice and tucked to his head. He has dark blue eyes right now and we are excited to see if he ends up with green/hazel like Jason and I. And we think his mouth/lips look like Meggan.
What do you think?

Welcome Ryder!
On Monday, January 31st, 2011 at 2:28 am we welcomed Ryder Dane Colombo into the world. He was 9 lbs 1 oz and measured 21 inches in length. He is the most amazing little guy and we have been enjoying every moment with him.
Our birth story:
On Sunday I had an induction massage by a trained massage therapist and doula. She told me that when she was doing my pressure point that they were already indented and that labor was probably on it's way. Boy was she right!
I started having contractions withing the hour. My first hour of contractions were 14, 11, 8 and then 6 minutes apart. This scared me that they were so close together. You are supposed to go to the hospital if they are 3-5 minutes apart and regular.
6:09 - I called our doula Julie regarding the contractions. Since they were still irregular she told me to eat, rest, maybe take a bath and to update her at 9:30pm. I used the birth ball for a while while Jason scrambled around the house getting things ready. Then I took a bath to relieve the pain. Jason sat by the bath and timed the contractions. Contractions became regular in the tub and were 6 minutes apart.
8:19 - We called Julie back and she came right over. By the time she got there they were 4-5 minutes apart. She helped me on the ball by rubbing my back and hips. She told Jason to get everything in the car while she took care of me.
9:00 - My contractions were now 3 minutes apart, so we were off to the hospital. In our rush we didn't even call the hospital or our Dr. oops! We pulled up to emergency and they wheeled me up to Labor/Delivery.
At this point time stopped for me. I have no concept of time until they said he was born at 2:28 am. My labor was very fast and very intense. The shower in the birthing suite was my friend! The hot water on my lower back really helped. After the shower they checked and I was 7cm. Then it was back to the bed on my side where I stayed until he was born. They let me push at 9 and that is when my water broke. Then it was all down hill from there. Pushing through contractions does make the pain much more bearable. Plus knowing it is almost over is the best feeling!
Jason helped and watched the whole thing. He gave me a play by play as the baby was coming out. They laid Ryder on me right away and got him warm. Jason came over and we both just stared in amazement. He calmed down really quickly and was very aware of our voices. This amazed us. He would turn to Jason or I as we talked. Jason cut the cord and then we enjoyed our time with him.
Ryder is officially 1 week old now. He has met all his grandparents and some of our friends. We took him to his first well baby check last Thursday where we learned he was already getting back to his newborn weight. This was reassuring that my milk had come in and he was getting what he needed.
